Have you completed your RYA Day Skipper theory with us? Are you looking to take your Day Skipper practical certificate with an instructor you already know, with a view to chartering in the Med or elsewhere? Are you a non-native English speaker who would appreciate our skipper’s language skills to make sure you experience as few barriers as possible while taking a course that is run in English?

Day Skipper is all about learning to take charge of a yacht – not only claiming the credit when a plan comes together perfectly, but also accepting responsibility when things don’t go so smoothly. This is not a course to start to learn to sail – for that you need to take Competent Crew or dinghy levels 1 & 2 – although your skills will naturally be refined. You will also experience 4 hours of night sailing – for many students the absolute highlight of the course.

Cloud Nine Sailing’s skipper Emma works with our friends Seafarer in Greece and Jolly Parrot in Gibraltar to deliver practical RYA Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses in both tidal and non-tidal waters, allowing you to charter a boat of your own for your next holiday.

We are also unique in offering our Greek island-hopping holidays as a Day Skipper preparation week. If you are looking to proceed to your Day Skipper practical course, either immediately following your charter or on another occasion, why not take the stress out of the 5-day continuous assessment by taking a week to become familiar with and practice the required drills without the pressure of pass/fail?

If you choose to do your Day Skipper course with us in the Ionian, combining it with the prep week will give you a head start by scoping out the area before the course. Contact us for information.

RYA Day Skipper can be added to any of our holiday packages for an additional fee of CHF 250 per student. For more information check out our FAQs for RYA courses

Thank you so much for a wonderful holiday and for your patience and diligence in teaching the Day Skipper practical – I learnt so much during those weeks and now really excited to continue the learning and experience journey – so roll on next year :-).

What's next?

Many people are satisfied when they achieve Day Skipper as it allows them to charter in most places in the world. However, if you are more ambitious, then the RYA scheme offers plenty of opportunity for progression. The next step would be the Yachtmaster/Coastal Skipper theory course in preparation for the RYA Coastal Skipper course and/or the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Coastal or RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore exams.
