What is a sailing dinghy?

A sailing dinghy is a small, lightweight, open boat propelled by the wind. Two key features are that it has a lifting keel (called either a centreboard or a daggerboard, depending on how it works) and a removable rudder. A dinghy is usually no longer than about 5m in length and often far less, and it is usually launched and hauled each day. You can see some examples on our dinghy sales site.

I'd like to rent a boat - can you help?

I’m afraid we don’t rent out dinghies in Switzerland – sorry!

However, if you are interested in yachting, our yacht Cloud Nine is available for skippered or bareboat charter in Greece.

Dinghy sailing can be incorporated into any of our holiday packages in Greece, with or without taking RYA qualifications.

Can children take part in dinghy sailing?

Yes abolutely, and the RYA has a dinghy sailing scheme specifically aimed at children, because learning to sail is a gift for life. You’ll be amazed at how quickly they get the hang of it and are off sailing a small boat on their own!

If children are to take an active part in sailing, they must be mature enough to have developed co-ordination and balance and to understand and follow instructions. In practice this means school-age. Younger children are encouraged to get involved in beach-based activities and our partners at Horizon are superbly imaginative in devising fun things to do in and on the water.

Are dinghy sailing courses supervised?

Yes, there will always be a safety boat in attendance on the water as well as a Duty Manager on the beach. If you are a beginner in a larger boat, you may even have an instructor on board with you.

What happens if I'm late arriving?
Please let us know as soon as you know you’re going to be late! For private instruction, your slot will finish at the booked time e.g. if you are 20 minutes late for a 2-hour booking, you will have 1 hour and 40 minutes available. If you are more than 1 hour late for a two-hour booking, this will count as a no-show and you will forfeit your booking. If you are going to be late for a group course, we’ll wait as long as we can but will have to start without you and it will be up to you to catch up.
